In Memory of Elsa Teklay
On February 4, 2025, Elsa dropped off three of her children at preschool and one at elementary school, just as she always did. Then she went to Campus Risbergska. That was the last time her children saw their mother. She was shot and killed in the school shooting.
Left behind is a grieving family—a father without a residence permit, now struggling to keep everything together. Four small children have lost their mother, Elsa Teklay, who was only 32 years old.
ADFA started a fundraiser via social media to support Elsa's children and others affected in Örebro.
Our initial goal was to raise 300,000 SEK to support Elsa’s children. Thanks to the incredible response from our community, we exceeded expectations and reached 500,000 SEK.
A Demand for Action is deeply moved by the overwhelming generosity and compassion shown for Elsa Teklay’s family. When tragedy struck, we came together to make a difference.

”She had many dreams”

Elsa Teklay, 32, a mother of four who came to Sweden from Eritrea in 2015, was one of the victims in the Risbergska school shooting in Örebro. She was studying to become a nursing assistant at Campus Risbergska while working for Örebro municipality. She had many dreams.
Despite living in Sweden for ten years, Elsa’s husband had not yet received a residence permit, creating significant pressure on the family. She worked two jobs and studied to meet requirements. Her husband has learned Swedish despite not living in Sweden, and their shared goal was to provide the best possible future for their children.
According to deacon Emmanuel Ghebrezghi, who was also Elsa’s friend, she was a loving and caring woman who fought for her family. Her husband, now left with four children in Örebro, is waiting for a residence permit and hopes the Migration Board will expedite the process for the children’s sake.
The charity organization A Demand For Action (ADFA) has raised 300,000 SEK through their fundraiser for Elsa’s children and is considering extending support to another family affected by the school shooting. Its founder, Nuri Kino, emphasizes that Sweden is a country full of care and love.
